We are In the Red.
When I say "we," I of course mean the members of this band - but I mean you as well.
We are ALL in the red.
Most of you may have check books or bank accounts. Maybe some of you have spent more than you could afford. You may have paid with money that was not yours.
Your account, as they say, suddenly goes in the red.
You are in debt.
Before God's throne - before His Holiness, His Justness, His Purity, and His Perfection - we are all in debt. We are all in the red according to God's records.
But even worse, we owe a debt that cannot be paid by human means.
No amount of money could ever secure us a place in eternity with God. No amount of good works could ever cause God to love us more.
We are all in debt to God for everything we take for granted here on earth, for the friends He surrounds us with, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of music, for our very lives. All that we are is owing to God's grace. We owe him our lives. That is our payment.
But even our lives come short of meeting our debt to God.
We are fallen.
We are imperfect.
We are sinful.
There is no way we could ever approach God based on our own merits.
But He made a way.
2000 years ago.
On a cross, when a Man died your death.
When the Son of God paid your bill.
When He canceled your debt before God.
Through Jesus, in the red of his blood, we are all made free.
